Healthy diet against glaucoma

Article

A balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables on a daily basis seems to protect the eye system from developing glaucoma.

A study presented at the European for Vision and Eye Research meeting showed that the incidence of glaucoma was 70% lower in people who ate carrots, vegetables and peaches frequently.

But this research contradicts a very epidemiological study done in 2003 that suggested that there is no association between diet and glaucoma.

The truth is that both surveys have vulnerabilities. For example, the more recent one included only women in its sample, while the earlier one relied on the participants' responses but did not examine them. Such a survey is objectively difficult as many parameters need to be considered.

Although the role of fruits and vegetables shows a multifaceted benefit for the overall health of the body, more in-depth research is needed into their effect on the ocular system, both overall and against specific conditions.
