How to protect our eyes from the computer screen

Article

If we don't know how to protect our eyes from long exposure to the computer screen, let's find out what the experts recommend.

Dry eyes are the main symptom experienced by office workers. Long exposure to the computer screen (more than 10 hours) results in tired and blurred eyes.

Research has shown that at least half of people who use computers for work experience some form of digital eye strain, usually leading to irritation, dryness, headaches or blurred vision.

Experts therefore recommend a rule in these cases that we should apply every 20 minutes, in order to rest our eyes.

The recommendation is therefore as follows: Look away from your screen for 20 seconds every 20 minutes and make sure you look at least 20 feet away. Experts say that these 20 seconds are enough to relax our eyes enough to reduce the strain on them.

Although the method has been known for a long time, this is the first time this relief strategy has been scientifically validated, according to a statement from Aston University in the UK, which conducted the research. Researchers at the university say this approach may help alleviate some eye symptoms associated with prolonged computer use.

Such symptoms may include dryness, sensitivity and discomfort.

Clearly, one of the key questions is how do we remember every 20 minutes to look 20 feet away? A reminder on our mobile phone or watch can help us take regular breaks for the good of our eyes, the experts who carried out the research suggest. Or, if we forget, let's look somewhere far away whenever we feel our eyes are tired.
