In addition to the regular check-ups that we need to do at our ophthalmologist, there are some urgent situations that require an immediate visit to him.
- Injury to the eye, whether caused by a foreign body or by a blow, leads us directly to the ophthalmologist.
- Retinal detachment: If you have flashes or suddenly see flies, or if the flies you have been seeing for a long time suddenly increase, you are at risk of retinal detachment and should see your eye doctor urgently.
- Acute closed-angle glaucoma: A sudden increase in intraocular pressure is a rare but urgent occurrence that presents with very severe eye pain, redness, blurred vision, headache and sometimes a tendency to vomit. If there is no immediate ophthalmological assessment and treatment, the risk of permanent effects on vision is significant.
- Chemical burn: Chemical burns are extremely dangerous and first aid is critical. If any chemical gets in your eye, it is important to rinse with plenty of water by staying under the tap for about 10 minutes and then seek immediate eye care.
