Outdoor activities reduce the likelihood of developing myopia!

Article

For many years, we have known that there is a correlation between myopia and close continuous work.

Recently, from a survey of K.Rose et al. in order to evaluate the development of myopia in school-age children, according to their activities, very interesting data were obtained.

The survey used 1765 children aged 6 years and 2367 children aged 7 years from 51 schools, starting in 2003 and lasting until 2005.

The children underwent a complete eye examination with cycloplegic refraction and together with their parents they completed detailed questionnaires about their daily activities.

According to the results, students who spent more time outdoors with motor activities, such as games and sports, were less likely to develop myopia.

Conversely, children who spent more hours on near tasks showed a greater tendency towards greater myopia or less hyperopia.
