Lumithera Valeda: Innovative Photomodulation Therapy for Dry Macular Degeneration
Treatment with the system Lumithera Valeda (Light Delivery System) is a revolutionary, non-invasive approach for the treatment of Dry Age-related Macular Degeneration (ADHD).
When lesions such as Druze (nodules), which tend to threaten vision, the Valeda system comes to strengthen the natural defence of the eye cells. Through the Photomodulation, emits light at specific wavelengths that «wake up» and rejuvenate macular cells, increasing their survival.

What is the aim of the treatment?;
The main objective is to stabilization and the Conservation of vision.
In patients with good vision and early stages of the disease (Drusen), there is often a gradual regression of the lesions and prolongation of good vision.
In cases of atrophy, the aim is to slow down its progression.
> Important Note: Studies show that optimal results are achieved when treatment is started early, in patients who still maintain good vision. Treatment is not indicated in cases where central vision has already been lost due to advanced atrophy.

The Process
The application is completely painless, non-invasive and safe. It does not require surgery or injections.
- Duration: The session lasts just 4 minutes for each eye.
- The Method: The patient sits comfortably in front of the machine. During the treatment, the eye is alternately exposed to different types of light:
- Yellow light: With the eye open (35 seconds).
- Red/Infrared light: With the eye closed (90 seconds).
- The process is repeated one more time to complete the cycle.
The Treatment Protocol
In order to achieve the maximum therapeutic effect, a specific schedule of sessions is followed:
Original Circle: 9 sessions in total.
Frequency: 3 times a week.
Duration: 3 weeks (with a maximum of 4 weeks).
Maintenance: The cycle of 9 sessions is repeated every 4 to 6 months, depending on the patient's response.
How it works (Action Mechanism)
Lumithera Valeda uses the science of Photobiomodulation (Photobiomodulation). Three specific wavelengths are used (590nm, 660nm, 850nm) that target directly to the “heart” of the cells, the mitochondria.
Benefits at the cellular level include:
Improving the metabolism and energy of the macula.
Reduction of oxidative stress and inflammation.
Inhibition of the mechanisms that lead cells to “self-destruct”
Because in the dry form of AMD the lesions progress silently long before vision is affected, this treatment works protectively, slowing down the aging of the cells.
Scientific Documentation & Studies
The treatment has received approval (CE Mark) in the European Union.
To date, no complications have been reported, nor progression of the disease to a liquid form due to the treatment.

Multicentre studies are ongoing LIGHTSITE III and ELECTROLIGHT confirming the positive results.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Lumithera treatment hurt?;
No, not at all. The treatment is 100% non-invasive. No instruments that touch the eye are used, no injections. You simply sit in front of the machine and see a bright light. It is a relaxing procedure.
Is this light dangerous for my eyes?;
No. The Valeda system uses specific wavelengths (photomodulation) that are designed to be safe and therapeutic. It is not a laser that burns, but rather a “cold” light that nourishes the cells. To date, no side effects have been reported from its use.
How often do I have to come to the clinic?;
The treatment works cumulatively. You need to do 3 sessions per week for 3 weeks (9 times in total). This is the basic cycle. Then, to maintain the effect, repeat the cycle every 4-6 months.
Will I see better right after the first session?;
Photomodulation works at the cellular level and takes time. Our goal is first and foremost to stop the deterioration and save the cells at risk. Many patients report improvement in sharpness and quality of vision (contrast sensitivity) after completing the treatment cycle, but this depends on the condition of each eye.
I have lost my vision from atrophy. Can you help me?;
Unfortunately, if the central vision is completely lost due to extensive atrophy, the cells are dead and cannot be “resurrected” by light. Lumithera treatment is ideal for the stages Before complete loss, when there are drusen and functioning cells that we can save.
Is there a chance that the treatment will cause damage or a wet form of degeneration?;
The clinical studies and data so far show that the treatment is completely safe. There have been no cases of dry form turning into wet form due to the treatment.
