When is the vitrectomy performed?;

Article

Although in most cases posterior vitreous detachment is not treated surgically, however, if the symptoms are very severe or the patient's occupational activity is demanding, then surgical removal of the vitreous is decided, which is known as vitrectomy or vitrectomy.

Specifically, the procedure to remove the myopes (flies) is called floterectomy.

Vitrectomy is also performed when flies and flashes coexist with another retina-related condition such as retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, diabetic retinopathy, macular hole and vitreoretinal traction.

The vitreous is removed to avoid any retinal traction, which can potentially cause bleeding, cracks or even retinal detachment.
