Blurred vision is a very common eye symptom that in most cases is due to innocent causes, such as eye fatigue from long hours of computer use or lack of sleep.<\/p>\n

It is also common to have the feeling that vision becomes blurred when the degrees of myopia, astigmatism or presbyopia increase and therefore we need to change glasses or contact lenses.<\/p>\n

But let's see below, if none of the above is true, some other possible causes that may be blurring our vision:<\/p>\n

  1. Conjunctivitis
    <\/strong>Conjunctivitis can be caused by a virus or bacteria and often resolves on its own within one to two weeks. Cold compresses to combat itching, hot compresses to combat swelling and eye drops to combat local irritation help to treat the discomfort. If the symptoms are severe, our eye doctor may prescribe a specific antibiotic treatment.<\/li>\n
  2. Herpetic keratitis
    <\/strong>It is an infection caused by the herpes virus and can occur when someone touches a sore on their lips if they have herpes simplex and then touches their eyes. The treatment of herpetic keratitis depends on its severity.<\/li>\n
  3. Waterfall
    <\/strong>Cataracts are a very common condition of the elderly that develops very slowly over many years. Blurred vision is the most characteristic symptom, as cataracts do not cause pain or other discomfort. Cataracts can only be effectively treated by surgery.<\/li>\n
  4. Glaucoma
    <\/strong>Glaucoma is also an age-related eye condition and is caused by damage to the optic nerve. Like cataracts, it progresses slowly and vision loss occurs over decades. The treatment of glaucoma includes prescription drugs, laser treatments or surgery, among others.<\/li>\n
  5. Macular degeneration
    <\/strong>Macular degeneration occurs mainly in people over 60 years of age. This condition is characterised by the loss of central vision, so it is an obstacle to everyday activities such as driving and reading. There is no definitive cure for macular degeneration. Key measures to prevent the condition include regular exercise, controlling blood pressure and cholesterol, abstaining from smoking and eating a healthy diet rich in vegetables and fish.<\/li>\n
  6. Diabetes
    <\/strong>Unregulated diabetes can cause blurred vision even at an early stage, before the severe damage of diabetic retinopathy is noticed in the eyes. High blood sugar can lead to macular edema, causing blurred vision and needs immediate treatment by our ophthalmologist.<\/li>\n
  7. Hypertension
    <\/strong>Hypertension is responsible for the majority of heart attacks and strokes, but it also has negative effects on vision. A complication of hypertension is retinal vein occlusion. Patients feel no pain and blurred vision usually only occurs in one eye. Retinal vein occlusion requires immediate treatment by our ophthalmologist to save vision.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    So a visit to our ophthalmologist, in case of blurred vision is imperative when:<\/p>\n

    o It occurs suddenly and does not go away with blinking,<\/p>\n

    o Accompanied by pain in the eye,<\/p>\n
