The condition is classified into three main types:<\/p><ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"7\"><li><p data-path-to-node=\"7,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"7,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Viral:<\/b> It is often associated with upper respiratory infections (adenoviruses). It is highly contagious and self-limiting.<\/p><\/li><li><p data-path-to-node=\"7,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"7,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Microbial:<\/b> It is caused by pathogens such as staphylococcus or streptococcus and is characterised by purulent discharge.<\/p><\/li><li><p data-path-to-node=\"7,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"7,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Allergic:<\/b> Reaction to exogenous allergens (pollen, cosmetics).
